Researchers at the University of Washington Autism Center are conducting the Early Detection and Social Development studies in order to learn more about how the early social development of infants at risk for autism spectrum disorders differs from that of infants not at risk. We hope to use this information to design methods of early identification, intervention and prevention of autism spectrum disorders.

Parents will be asked to fill out questionnaires about their child’s behavior. Infants may also receive assessments of their social and communication behavior at certain visits up to 36 months of age.

Families eligible for the Early Detection Study may come to the University of Washington for 0 to 2 visits and may receive up to $215 for their time and expense. Families eligible for the Social Development Study may come to the University of Washington for 7 to 9 visits and may receive up to $675 for their time and expense. Eligible families may participate in one or both studies. These studies are funded by the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development.
