A Town Hall Meeting on Tuesday, June 8, at 7 pm
On New Civil Rights Legislation (HB 3026)
With the Office of State Superintendent of Public Instruction, OSPI Equity and Civil Rights Office

HB 3026 prohibits discrimination in public schools based on race, creed, religion, color, national origin, sexual orientation including gender expression or identity, veteran or military status, disability, or the use of a trained dog guide or service animal by a person with a disability.   Families, students, advocates and organizations who work with students who have disabilities are invited to provide input in developing state regulations for HB 3026, which goes into effect on June 10th, 2010.

Town Hall Date: Tuesday, June 8th, 2010
Time: 7 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.
Location: Hamilton International Middle School Library, 4400 Interlake Ave N, Seattle 98103

Input may be provided via public testimony and/or written input Guidelines for public testimony:(Confidentiality is assured.) Participants testifying need to sign-in and testimony can be no longer than two (2) minutes.  Written handout of your public testimony can be included. (3 copies suggested.  Those not providing public testimony, can provide written input. (Forms are provided.)

Guiding questions have been provided to assist in developing your testimony/input:
1.    In your experience, how has discrimination been present/not present in your school or district?
2.    What are your experiences with your school’s process to address complaints of discrimination?
3.    What are recommendations for schools to eliminate discrimination based on protected classes?
4.    What concerns do you have regarding the implementation of HB 30226?
