Let’s talk about accommodations
Accommodations aren’t “special treatment”—they are tools that help Autistics (and others with disabilities) access learning, work, and community on an equal footing. Everyone learns and thrives differently, and accommodations make it possible for us to show our best.
💡 Examples: noise-canceling headphones, extra time on tests, flexible deadlines, quiet spaces, visual supports, or communication options like typing instead of speaking.
Why they matter:
✔️ They reduce barriers and make environments more inclusive.
✔️ They support learning, independence, and mental health.
✔️ They let people focus on their strengths instead of struggling through unnecessary obstacles.
And here’s the most important part: there is no shame in needing or asking for accommodations. Every person deserves the support they need to succeed—whether in school, at work, or in daily life.
Advocating for accommodations is self-advocacy. It’s a way of saying, “My needs matter, and I have the right to be included.”
